Dahl's Foods is a dominant force in the Iowa grocery market with about a dozen Dahl's Food Mart supermarkets in the Des Moines metropolitan area. Dahl's prides itself on offering low prices and good service, with extras like drive-up service at some stores. All Dahl's stores have in-store pharmacies. To compete with the likes of Wal-Mart and Costco Wholesale, and local rival Hy-Vee the regional grocery chain has begun selling gas and more recently added in-store Quick Care Clinics to several of its stores in partnership with Mercy Medical Center. Founded by W. T. Dahl in 1931, the grocery company was sold to its employees (organized under the name Foods Inc.) in 1970.
